About Wine Walking

We'd like to think of Urban Wine Walkers as the soon-to-be ultimate blog for arbitrary adventure seekers who love to explore new walking routes then enjoy a good glass of wine (or vice versa). As we mentioned on the home page, we're just a couple of newly-minted empty nesters combining our love of wine and coffee with our need for exercise. We explore urban wineries and coffee houses in mostly beach communities (for now) and design walking routes that include one or both along the way.

If you're thinking "this is brilliant", we agree!

We are passionate about discovering the best wine walking (and coffee) routes and sharing them with our readers. We believe that wine walking is not only a great way to stay fit, but also an amazing way to explore new places.

Why "Wine Walking"?
Wine Walking

Because wine? Actually, there is a method to our madness and its name is "Temptation Bundling".

Back in 2014, behavior researcher Katherine Milkman and her colleagues conducted a study measuring the impact of bundling instantly gratifying, yet guilt-inducing, “want” experiences (in our case "wine") with valuable “should” behaviors providing delayed rewards (exercising). In other words, you pair something super fun (that you don't really "need" to be doing) with something less fun (that you really "should" be doing), thereby making the "should" task more enjoyable while offsetting potential guilt of taking part in the "want" experience.

Are we saying you should have a glass of wine in your hand while you walk the town? Only if it's legal (we're lookin' at you, New Orleans).

Anyway, check it out - it's a thing.

What are Arbitrary Adventure Levels?
Arbitrary Adventur Level Explanatin

Based on our own abilities and "level of difficulty" definitions, we've assigned an "Arbitrary Adventure Level" to each walk (1 through 5). This should provide a little guidance to the level of difficulty of the walk.

Hint: None of these walks are super difficult. I mean, we're drinking wine. (We're not monsters.)
