Laguna Beach: Art, Surf, Scenery, and more Art
There is a lot to see in Laguna Beach, and it centers around the amazing scenery with the vibe of a true artist colony. The Laguna Beach Art Association was established back in 1918, and catered to the early bohemian artists that visited the area. The annual Pageant of the Masters, a unique show that presents recreations of famous artworks using real people as models, was founded in 1933 and is still going strong during the summer months. In addition, various community organizations host several long-running art festivals during the summer season. There is always something interesting to see in Laguna Beach.
Although there is surfing in Laguna Beach, the steep shoreline tends to make the waves break right at the shore, which is perfect for skimboarding. The shorebreak in the area is so good in fact, that the World Skimboarding Championships are held at Aliso Beach (just South of Laguna) each year. You can catch highly talented skimboards showing off their skills at most of the sandy beaches in the area.
Our walk takes you past art galleries to the coastline for some amazing views of Shaw’s Cove, Diver’s Cove, and Heisler Park; along Main Beach; through Downtown Laguna Beach with its shops, restaurants and art galleries; and back up along North Coast Highway for more shops and art galleries. Did we mention there are art galleries here?
