Leucadia: Where Bohemian Charm Meets Coastal Splendor
The quiet beach community of Leucadia was founded in the 1800’s by a group of English spiritualists, bringing with them a love of religious freedom and a penchant for Greek history and mythology. They renamed the town Leucadia, Greek for “place of shelter, isle of paradise” after a tiny island off the coast of Greece. As the town grew, the English settlers named all the streets after Greek gods and goddesses.
Over the years, Leucadia's unique coastal charm and artistic community has attracted free spirits and creatives, fostering a bohemian atmosphere that still permeates the town to this day. Just don’t mockingly call it “Quaaludia”, the locals aren’t that laid back about their lovely town, despite the number of friendly golden retrievers you are sure to notice on your stroll.
Our walk will take you to a coffee place so nice they named it twice, a great urban winery with serious people-watching possibilities, stairs and trails down to the beach that will make your calves burn a bit, and a low-tide-only beach walk from Beacons to Grandview that you can mirror on the cliffs above at high tide while you peek at the ocean between amazing homes.
