Point Loma - Liberty Station
From 1923 to 1997, this area of San Diego was home to the Naval Training Center, where new naval recruits spent their eight weeks of boot camp. In 1997, the largest historical preservation project in San Diego history began, and by 2012 The old Naval Training Center was transformed into “Liberty Station” San Diego’s largest center for arts, culture, science, and technology. The original historic structures have been renovated, with retail establishments occupying former barracks and administrative buildings. The result is a beautiful neighborhood that is simultaneously understated and interesting, with hidden gems around every corner.
Our walk starts in the heart of Liberty station, winds through NTC Park along the Esplanade, over a pedestrian bridge to the other side of the channel, and back again. This is the flattest of our walks, so you can march around all day without getting too tired.
